About the Municipality

 

The municipality of Maletín is located in the Šumperk district in the Olomouc Region. It lies along a third-class road, 15 km away from Mohelnice, Zábřeh na Moravě, and Moravská Třebová. Public transportation in the village is provided by bus connections.

Maletín consists of three parts: Javoří, Nový Maletín, and Starý Maletín.

The village is first historically mentioned in 1317. The following cultural monuments are recorded in the land register of the municipalit

Church of Saint Nicholas with the premises – a single-nave Empire church from 1804-1805; the premises include:

  • Calvary sculpture group (in the cemetery) – an Empire sculpture group from 1848, the work of local stonecutter L. Ch. Wanke.
  • Two cemetery gates and a surrounding wall – the main gate from 1821, the eastern gate from 1845, and the surrounding wall from the early 19th century.
  • Cross (by the vicarage) – stonework from 1750 of local origin.
  • Family house No. 1 – masonry folk architecture from the first half of the 19th century, richly decorated with Maletín sandstone, with a portal from 1839.
  • Statue of Saint John of Nepomuk – a baroque sculpture from the second quarter of the 18th century, attributed to sculptor J. H. Heintz; the angel figures are the work of local stonecutter F. Wanke.
  • Marian column (in the middle of the village) – a baroque sculpture from 1725, supplemented in 1883.

The municipality of Maletín can boast unspoiled nature of the Zábřeh Highlands, characterized as a recreational area. In the picturesque valley of the Mírovka river, there are recreational facilities and reservoirs. The Czech Tourist Club has marked a green tourist trail that leads to two former quarries where sandstone was mined. In one of the quarries, there is a well called U dvou Janů, and the water quality is classified as suitable for infants according to analysis. Near the well, a gazebo has been built with a labyrinth and children's climbing structures. The second preserved quarry, Kubíček's quarry, has a flooded pond, and there is an interesting educational trail about Maletín sandstone; in nature, there is a photographic gallery with descriptions of sandstone fossils of plants and animals.

The village has a public water supply and gas supply, partial sewage system connected to a wastewater treatment plant, a church, a kindergarten, a primary school, a public library, cultural facilities, three multipurpose sports fields, a water reservoir, a shop for food and mixed goods, and a pub.

Several active associations operate in the area: the HUBERT Hunting Association, Maletín Moms, the Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Fishermen's Association and TJ Maletín.
